I’m revising my intro this week, and it’s going well. I dislike the title I gave it, though, and the chapter titles in general. But what do readers think? Something plain and direct, or something more descriptive and literary? For example, Chapter One is currently titled “Early Life and Works,” but I’d almost rather borrow my LC/AMS talk title for it: “Myth and Meaning in (Talma’s) Early Life and Works. Likewise, Chapter Two is simply “Tonality.” I could see “Developing a Tonal Style,” or something else. Maybe I can use quotes from LT’s own writings for chapter titles. Ideas?
Chapter titles

Hi Kendra, I personally like the more descriptive/literary titles. They make me want to read on, versus the plain and direct.
On a completely unrelated topic,I actually use this theme for one of my blogs. It’s funny that, although we’ve only met on Facebook vicariously through a common friend (Melanie) we have so much in common.

I like descriptive and literary…they are more alluring to me…they tease my curiosity about what will be written…

I’d vote for the descriptive/literary ones as well. Just think! Professors at some point will assign chapters from your book, and it is nice if they have somewhat stand-alone titles!
